The basis of homoeopathy is to give a diluted dose of a substance which, if given to a healthy person at full strength, would cause symptoms akin to the illness being treated. Homoeopathy is effective for the treatment of a wide range of painful conditions including:
- Digestive complaints
- Headaches and migraine
- Skin conditions such as eczema
- Premenstrual syndrome
- Joint ailments such as arthritis
Naturally occurring materials, such as plant extracts, can be used medicinally to alleviate pain. Herbs and plants contain a complex mixture of ingredients which act on the body’s chemistry and physiology to relieve painful symptoms.
Homoeopathic medicines are produced by repeatedly diluting the original active component, a process known as potentisation. Each successive potency is signified by a number. The higher the number the more potent the remedy. Arnica 30, for example, is both more dilute and more therapeutically powerful than Arnica 6.
Homoeopathy at Chichester Natural Health Centre
Dr Palak Shah is an experienced classical homoeopathic practitioner, she had an established private practice in India for eight years, before joining us at the clinic. She is a member of Homoeopathic Medical Association (HMA) UK, and Maharashtra Medical Council, India. Palak’s extensive understanding of homoeopathy science has helped her to treat various acute and chronic diseases with these natural medicines.
Method
Homoeopathic medicines are derived from plant, animal and mineral compounds. A number of remedies are considered to have widespread application for painful disorders and can be obtained from chemists, healthfood shops and even supermarkets. However, only a qualified homoeopathic practitioner can prescribe an individualised remedy based on careful questioning.
So, by taking a full case history from the patient Palak is able to understand more and treat the patient as an individual. She will ask questions about any current complaints, past medical history, family and personal history, the emotional state of mind, along with stress levels and life situation. Time is given to the patient, or the parent for babies, to give their own unique account of the symptoms and issues affecting them. Palak is then guided by the patient to select just one remedy from the thousands of possible choices. Palak would also enquire about the nature of the pain, and its frequency and intensity. Pain resulting from cystitis, for example, might require different remedies in different patients, depending on various factors, such as the degree and nature of the pain, whether the pain occurs before or after urination, and whether or not there is blood in the urine.
Result
A homoeopathic remedy that is well matched to your symptoms and other individual characteristics, such as your temperament or food preferences, will often be more effective in alleviating pain than a conventional painkiller.
